  • We are so excited to welcome back our students and families!

FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL (download PDF)

    • Tuesday, September 5th - Grades 1st-6th
    • Wednesday, September 6th - Kinder

As we prepare for next week, we have some important updates to share regarding the first day of school and pick-up and drop-off procedures.

This year we are allowing parents to walk their children, on the first day of school only,  into their classrooms for the first time since the pandemic. How exciting! That being said, we would like to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible.

    Some Logistics:

    • Doors will open and students can enter the building through the gym doors at 7:30.

    • Students can wait with their classes in the gym or head to the cafeteria for breakfast.

    • The bell will ring at 7:50 and at that time please  walk with your child directly to their classroom per teacher direction.

    • Parents/Caregivers are welcome to stay until 8:00 when class begins.

This is an exciting time and I know kids can’t wait to show you their classrooms but please be mindful and respect the time of the teacher.  We would ask that families leave promptly at 8:00 so everyone can get into a routine. Thank you!

    DROP OFF AND PICK-UP INFO

Pick-up and Drop-off Details: We understand the importance of efficient and safe pick-up and drop-off procedures for our students. Your cooperation in adhering to these procedures will greatly contribute to the overall safety of our school community and our neighbors.

Pull into the EAST driveway or front of the school building. Pull all the way forward and have your student(s) exit your car once you are next to the sidewalk. Up to ten cars can unload along the sidewalk at one time along the yellow line only.  Students enter the school building through the Gym entrance. Those wishing to park may park on the NORTH side of the school building in the grass area.  Gates will be open.  Walk your children into the building.

    • Students must wait to enter the building until 7:30 am.

    • The school day begins at 7:50 am.

    • Those arriving after 8:00 must stop in the office before heading to

    • their classroom.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to contact the school office at 503-844-1140

Thank you for helping us ensure a smooth start of the school year!

Principal's Message

  • Gabby VillamaguaDear Free Orchards Families,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!  I look forward to being the new principal of Free Orchards and anticipate a successful year partnering with the staff and community to promote success for all of our students.

The staff of Free Orchards are passionate educators who are dedicated to providing a quality school experience for your child.  They are sensitive, caring professionals who are committed to providing enriching experiences that include all learners.  We are proud to work with our community partners such as the Right Brain Initiative, Adelante Mujeres, and SMART to provide opportunities for our students.  Parent involvement, too, is vital to your children’s success, and we ask that you continue to play an active role in their education.

As we move into the new school year, we will leverage the success of our strong PBIS behavior systems, our Dual-Language program, and an inclusive model of instruction to promote success for all.  We look forward this year to a renewed focus on writing instruction, academic language development, and improved school climate.  Our new Wellness Room is a great resource to teach children the skills they need to be resilient learners.

Thank you for trusting us with the education and caring development of your child. If you have questions or concerns that arise at any time, please do not hesitate to give your child’s teacher or me a call. Family support is a critical link to student achievement. We want to hear from you!

    In partnership,

    Gabby Villamagua

    Gabby Villamagua
