Dear Indian Hills Staff and Families,

Recently, as part of routine environmental testing, all of the faucets, fountains, and other water sources at our school were tested for the presence of lead.

We just received the results and learned that fourteen water sources tested above the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recommended action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb):

    • Room 6 drinking fountain - 29.7 ppb
    • Room 7 drinking fountain - 25.3 ppb
    • Room 8 drinking fountain - 18.6 ppb
    • Room 11 classroom faucet - 15.8 ppb
    • Room 12 drinking fountain - 15.6 ppb
    • Room 13 drinking fountain - 34.5 ppb
    • Room 14 drinking fountain - 43.1 ppb
    • Room 15 drinking fountain - 17.3 ppb
    • Room 15 classroom faucet - 35.2 ppb
    • Room 16 classroom faucet - 20.1 ppb
    • Room 19 drinking fountain - 24.0 ppb
    • Room 19 classroom faucet - 36.7 ppb
    • Room 20 classroom faucet - 15.4 ppb
    • Kitchen, pot filler faucet - 401 ppb

Our drinking fountains were already shut off because of COVID, but the other water sources have either been turned off or have signage placed on them that indicate they can be used for handwashing only. The fixtures will remain unavailable or restricted in their usage until they can be replaced. Once new fixtures are installed, they will be re-tested for the presence of lead and will only be placed back in service once the lead levels are below 15 ppb.

Please refer to this document for additional information about lead content in water.

We take everyone’s safety and health very seriously and appreciate the opportunity to work swiftly in collaboration with Facilities and PBS Environmental Engineering consultants to address this issue.

    Sincerely,

    Deborah Hunt
    Principal

Principal's Message

  • Jennifer McCalley

    Dear Imlay families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the Principal of Imlay Elementary School. I am thrilled to begin the new school year and look forward to meeting students, staff, parents, and community members. Over the past few years I have witnessed great things in Imlay community and your Eagle Pride has shined bright! It is obvious that this school is a unique place and I am so happy to be a part of it.

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself for those of you new to Imlay. I am a born and raised Oregonian and attended the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! I love to read, sit in the sunshine, watch movies, spend time with family and friends and craft. I have been married for 24 years to my husband and have two children, Austin who is 19 years old and going to be a sophomore at Oregon State University (Yes, we have a family divided!) and Maddie, who is 16 years old and is entering her senior year.

I began my educational career 22 years ago in Portland as a classroom teacher. I taught PK through 6th grade over the course of 14 years. During the last eight years, I have worked as an assistant principal, and then principal. This begins my eigth year as an elementary school administrator, and I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to your son/daughter’s school and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Each year, I am aware of the anticipation and eagerness that accompanies the beginning of a new school year. It is expected and understandable. It is my goal to spend my the first several months getting to know our new Imlay students and their families.  You will love being part of our Eagle Community!  I believe that genuine collaboration fosters ownership of a rich school culture. Supporting our children to do well at school, and in their personal lives, is the center of the work we do as a school family. I am honored to have been selected to serve this community!

My goal as principal at Imlay Elementary School is to ensure the safety and success of ALL students, every day. Working alongside the educators and community members at Imlay, I strive to provide the best possible education for every student who attends our school. I work to promote a positive school culture and safe learning environment, each day.

I look forward to an incredible year ahead! I will be sending out emails with beginning of the school year information in mid-August. Please check in on the Imlay website (https://www.hsd.k12.or.us/imlay), the Imlay Elementary School Facebook page and Twitter throughout the summer. I will be posting updates, pictures and school information over the next months and throughout the school year.

I hope each of you enjoy our beautiful Oregon summer and are looking forward to a great school year. The 2020-21 school year will be busy, exciting, and very rewarding for every student. My door is always open, and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in, call or email me to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas! I will be in and out of the building throughout the month of July and August. I look forward to meeting you and expanding my school family as an Imlay Elementary School Eagle!

    Imlay Eagles

    Yours in Eagle Pride,

    Jen McCalley
