COVID-19 Vaccine Overview
-
Vaccinating people against COVID-19 is a key step to slowing community spread of the virus and reaching herd immunity.
Because supplies of the authorized vaccines are limited, states have been prioritizing groups of people for vaccination. In group 1a are front-line healthcare workers and elderly people in congregate care settings. K-12 educators and staff are in group 1b.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Governor Kate Brown announced that Oregon would be expanding COVID-19 vaccination to include certain populations from group 1b, including K-12 educators and staff. Read the full press release here.
From that point forward, we have been working with local healthcare providers to ensure our staff have opportunities to be vaccinated.
As of Friday, March 5, specific vaccination clinics for educators had been discontinued, as it was believed a saturation point had been reached. K-12 educators and support staff do still remain eligible, and that includes newly-hired staff, substitutes, and high school coaches and activity advisors. If you are in one of these groups and have not yet received your vaccination, please visit Get Vaccinated Oregon to sign up for notification of when a vaccination appointment is available to you.
