Kelso’s Wheel teaches children to distinguish between big problems (those that are unsafe and dangerous) and small problems. Big problems are reported to an adult right away.  If it’s a small problem, students are encouraged to try at least two of Kelso’s choices before reporting the problem to an adult. If, after two attempts the child is unsuccessful at solving the problem, it is time to ask an adult to help.

Steps To Respect is a bullying prevention program taught in 4th and 5th grades.  Research shows that bullying can be reduced greatly when staff, students, and parents tackle the problem together.  The primary goal of the program is to help create a safe, caring, respectful learning environment in which bullying is not tolerated.  Students will learn new skills to help them build friendships and deal with bullying.  Some skills they will learn are making friends, joining group activities, managing conflicts, recognizing and reporting bullying.
