Bond Update: Poynter Renovations
November 25, 2019 - Phase 4 is under way to implement seismic, HVAC and other upgrades in the final section of the Poynter Middle School building. Renovations are ahead of schedule, with expected completion by Dec. 20. This section will be opened to students and staff when they return from winter break on Jan. 6.
This is the last phase of bond renovations at Poynter. Starting in March 2019, work has progressed in four phases as construction was implemented from section to section of the building. During the school year, classrooms were temporarily moved to portables as their respective sections were under construction; the portables will be removed when phase 4 is completed and classrooms are returned to the building.
The gyms also were renovated, with new flooring and HVAC upgrades. In addition to infrastructure work, Poynter received new classroom technology last year, in the first year of the bond, and will be receiving new flexible furniture next summer.
The $18.5 million total taxpayer investment from the 2017 Bond will enable Poynter Middle School to serve its students and school community for the long-term future, and fulfills the bond promise of implementing safety improvements, enhanced infrastructure, and a modern educational experience for our students.
