About the Presentation:
Shani Buggs, Ph.D., M.P.H., will share the current state of community firearm violence in the United States. Dr. Buggs will explain the historical and contemporary causes and consequences of firearm violence. She will describe practices of community-based firearm violence intervention and prevention programs. Dr. Buggs will also describe steps to take to support survivors of community firearm violence and community-based strategies for reducing firearm violence.
About the Sarah Anne and Erin Ford Braner Endowed Lectureship:
The endowment was established by Mary DeFrank Braner, M.D., and Dana Braner, M.D., FAAP, FCCM, Credit Unions for Kids chair, professor of pediatrics (critical care), OHSU School of Medicine, and physician-in-chief, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. It was named for their children with a goal of improving education, awareness, interventions and policies to reduce the human cost of gun violence, especially to our children.
